Listening to @baldur on @martinfeld‘s Really Specific Stories. Glad I was driving, not sipping coffee! Contrary views to other episodes, strongly put across. Powerful on RSS & interface! Interesting on text vs podcasts vs video.

3x3 grid of pictures, photos round a map of where they were taken. From Top left: Frog; Starry Saxifrage; litchen; low clouds; map; christine decending Troisgeach; Scotch Argus Butterfly. Eagle; stonechat in bush.
Heading for Meall an Fhudair, but very poor visibility so we turned back at Meall nan Caora just after Troisgeach. Still a great day, highlights lots of Scotch argus & a couple of eagles. Map: walkmap

Read: You Have a Friend in 10A: Stories by Maggie Shipstead ★★★★★ 📚
Loved these absorbing stories. Wide ranging settings & situations. Plenty of surprises. The only disappointment, an expected last story turned into acknowledgments & extract from The Great Circle.

A linnet sitting on bracken

Had a short walk around the braes, heather very purple, few butterflies around, and a couple of big dark blue dragonflies.

Read: Antarctica by Claire Keegan ★★★★☆ 📚

After reading Small Things Like These and watching Foster I was surprised at some of the more dramatic turns and unpleasantness in some of these stories. They have a similar quiet, clarity & almost terseness.

Read: I’m Sorry You Feel That Way by Rebecca Wait ★★★★☆ 📚
dysfunctional family story, that was in turn rather funny and quite serious. I enjoyed the fun and though the description of psychosis was good.

Grid of photos around a map of where they were taken, from top left: Clouds love over the hill, Red deer stag, antlers in velvet, facing camera; red deer fawn facing camera; Smooth Ground Beetle; map; Devils Bit Scabious flower head; shed skin of common lizard, sitting on black material; Golden Eagle silhouette on blue sky; small pool on Tulich hill.
I had a walk around Glen Douglas yesterday. Lots to see, more on the walkmap Missing from the photos are lots of Scotch Argus butterflies who did not stand still.

The second is as brave a performance as could be.

Read: Dead Lions by Mick Herron ★★★☆☆ 📚
The second in the series, grubby comic spies. I think I’ll keep reading these now and again.
