Blackthorn blossoms. Ditherered to lack & white

Had a short walk around Kilpatrick Muir this morning. Heard but didn’t see green woodpeckers. Did spot a couple of peacock butterflies. The first this year for me.

Kilpatrick: First hawthorn leaves, just & no more. Blackthorn buds, later here. Buzzard, larks, raven, grouse & goldfinch. Lesser celandine, golden saxifrage & First primrose. Trees on the moor bare.

Short walk on Braes, last harebells & yarrow, blackberries & heather finished except for few bell heathers still purple. First redwings in the hawthorn.

Had a short walk around the braes, heather very purple, few butterflies around, and a couple of big dark blue dragonflies.

Flora on Kilpatrick muir At the back, common ling & bell heather. Some blaeberry leaves poking through. At the front, yellow bedstraw, harebells, yarrow, willow herb. Grasses with seedheads, Yorkshire fog and others.

Nice walk yesterday morning. Meadow Sweet starting to come out. 8 Ravens flying above edge of braes. Butterflies: Ringlet, Small heath, Meadow Brown. Lots of folk on the road, Braes quiet, quite wet in long grass.

Walk around Kilpatrick muir this afternoon. Warm sunny, blue skys, lots of butterflies: small heath; green veined whites; orange tips, orange not identified. Red Kite flying above the moor, 1st I’ve seen here.

Blackthorn buds

The Blackthorn at the Kilpatrick muir id a little behind others I’ve seen recently from the road.
We did see out first tortoiseshell butterfly and quite a few bees today. A couple of larks singing on the muir too.

I am John Johnston A Primary Teacher in Scotland. I currently teach primary 4-5-6-7 in Banton Primary, the Banton Biggies. From 1993 until 17th October 2008 a class teacher at Sandaig Primary in Glasgow. In 20th October 2008 I joined North Lanarkshire Council as an Educational ICT Development Officer where I was until 2016. From January 2014 till December 2015 I was on secondment to the Scottish Government to work on Glow as Product Owner mostly on Glow Blogs. I am continuing the role on a part time basis.
