Lark on a Fence Post
Rather cloudy today. This wee guy was singing loud and clear. Gets better as it goes.
Blue Damselfly in Victoria Park this evening.
We has a nice gentle stroll from Dawsholm up the River Kelvin to the vet school and Maryhill Road.
Lovely sunny day, it really feels like summer now. Plenty of butterflies out, orange tips and whites.
Bluebells in the woods along with garlic mustard and wild garlic. Everything green and lush. A few trout rising on the river. Watched a goosander fishing, and saw a heron sunning itself.
I’d heard there was a woodpecker nesting in the park and seen the guys with the huge lens pointing at this dead tree. This evening we head a lot of chirping and saw this wee guy popping its head out. There seems to be more woodpeckers around this year.
A couple of the coot nests on the park pond had chicks, spent a while sitting in the sun watching the parents feed and protect on one. Few more photos on Flickr.
I have been looking forward to this. First cuckoo I’ve heard in 2021. Ardinning this morning. Lots of other birds singing, most I can’t recognise. I did hear curlew, peewits, ravens and dabchicks on the loch.
The dabchick seem to be off to a good start this year, this nest looks a lot more substantial than the ones they were building at this time last year.
Out for a walk in a very snowy Glasgow. Was surprised to see a few parakeets, at one point flying above through fairly thick snowfall.
Mammals can be elusive and sometimes the first clue that they are there isn't the flash of a tail or the flick of an ear poking out of the foliage but a field sign - like poo! Often, finding and identifying the poo you find in your garden or on a walk will be the only way you know that
If I ever get to take the class to the woods again this will be useful.
