feedpile.com/johnjohnston a rather nice rss aggregator what seems to my hurried test to be better at keeping things in order than my suprglu where I seem to get multiple copies of the same entry.
Dutch Podcast Out
I have published the podcast recorded in De Rank on the Radio Sandaig page.
That pretty much wraps up the trip. We had a great time and I think I learned a lot about a whole range of things.
- Recording with my new Logitech® USB Mic straight into Audacity is, as I expected, a lot more efficient than using the iPod. The sound quality seems fine too. I am going to use this more for the regular Radio Sandaig podcasts.
- It is nice to be connected, I blogs from the airport, the two schools and the hotel we stayed in, the iBook really shines for this, I never had to touch a setting except to put in wireless network wep passwords.
- There can be a real connection using Video conferencing. This is the first time I’ve conference with people (my own school) who I know well. Although there was no obvious educational content in the conference, mostly “hello” & “this is what we are doing in De Rank”, it will hopefully help to build links between our schools. I am also aware of the difficulty the Dutch children have in understanding the Sandaig Children’s accents. I will be thinking of how to communicate on a visual rather than verbal level in the future.
- I also really like the muli layered communication that we were trying, blogs, video conference, just posting image galleries and the podcast. I am very optimistic that his will really help with building friendship across the North Sea.
- Comic life, what a wonderful application for Education, children just love it.
busy two days
I’ve been busy blogging on the Sandaig De Rank Blog for the last two days, we had a wonderful time, blogging, making comics, podcasting and video conferencing.
The podcast should be ready by Sunday, and hopefully I’ll have time to gather my thoughs and put them here. In the meantime please check the Sandaig De Rank Blog and the links there to photo galleries and Comic Life strips.
Update (Saturday 18 February):
A quick links list in addition to the posts on Sandaig – De Rank
Podcast coming tomorrow. A comic life trip of our trip is in the works too.
Westzaan Podcast
At the end of a busy, busy day.
We had a great time at De Rank Westzann, just about finishedthe first half of the De Rank podcast. If things g oas well tomorrow at the other part of De Rank School: Assendelft the finished podcast should be on Radio Sandaig at the weekend.
The children were great recording in both Dutch and English. We had time for a video confrence with Sandaig and made a comic life cartoon of the day. I should really think about the experence, but I am going to the pub!
Westzann podcasting
The Children in De Rank are podcasting in both Dutch and English. I am very impressed with their clear english, their accents are much better than mine.
We have recorded two groups this morning, one more to do this afternoon.
Sandaig From Space
Google maps have improved the resolution of the area surrounding the school.
coComment 2
I’ve played a bit more with coComment nice touches are the RSS feeds of your comments and a JavaScript to include your comments on a blog or web page. The RSS seems a bit quicker than the javascript at the moment.
coComment doesn’t seem to work on Manila blogs or Ewan’s although TypePad is supposed to be supported.
Once the speed and support for loads of blogs is worked out this could be a real timesaver.
cocomment
testing http://www.cocomment.com/ which looks like a very nice idea.
Worked better on a blogger test
Guest podcast coming up, in Dutch!
Later in February I am going along with a colleague form School to our partner school in the Netherlands: De Rank.
I am hoping to get them to record a podcast which we will publish on our site, in fact two podcasts. De Rank is a school on two sites Assendelft and Westzaan.
Of course I don’t speak any Dutch but the teachers there speak pretty good English, so I think we will get by. I’ve started by blogging some instructions on the Sandaig – De Rank blog here: Sandaig Teachers visit .
I hope to enthuse the De Rank children about blogging too, and to blog the trip for the sandaig children to read.
Comic Life
Some children in primary six have just finished a small project with Comic Life. Back To the Victorian Times using photos taken on our trip to Scotland Street School Museum.
The children really loved Comic Life. I wish we had more copies. It takes all the difficulty in creating a beautiful comic strip leaving them to think about what to show and stay. We made the simplest comic possible, Comic Life. has lots more features and possibilities.
