This is fascinating to me for a couple of reasons: When I tested it I’d forgotten I’d been using duckduckgo.com on all my devices for 4 months, so I could see a view file link. Obviously I’ve not missed google searches.
Is it such a bad thing that you have to visit a site to download images. That gives you thinking time and might help you check copyright.
I followed micro.blog’s suggestion to use emoji for post about books & casually extended it a bit. @mrkrndvs is thinking a bit deeper. Not hard to strip emoji out of titles? Converting to Post Kinds more so?

I really love the idea of webmentions, they seem to return us to the earlier days of the web, where conversation spanned sites. It also feel much more of an acknowledgement to get a mention on someones own site as opposed to a social media silo.
I’ve already turned off the moderation of webmentions here, they get published immediately.
As Aaron’ says the solution is technical. Even the basic use of webmentions take a step or two more than just setting up a blog.
I notice mentions from some folk come through as mentions but don’t link to the post they come from. I do get the full post via email notification, so they must be sending all the information,but either my blog is not handling it correctly or they are not formatted in a way the blog understands.

Thanks, microcasting, at least in the quick and dirty fashion I am using certainly cuts down on the time needed. I am listen to more and more microcasts and less longer form one.
I wonder if you would be interested in trying a slowcast in the style Alan is trying, It’s Out! Episode 1 of The Puerto Rico Connection – CogDogBlog. I think I just invented the word slowcast, but the idea of taking time to think and respond might be attractive?

I am therefore thinking of creating a script in Sheets that collates all the links for the month in a Google Doc. To be honest, Google Apps Script is all still new to me, but I am wondering about the possibility of creating a template with merge fields. I remember Autocrat doing something similar. I could then use this to post in WordPress.
This sounds really interesting. I’ve not done much with sheet scripting other than copy the odd script. But I am wondering if you could still use a social bookmarking service, say pinboard, then use IMPORTFEED in your sheet to grab all the links, and descriptions . This might be easier than opening a google form every time you want to add a link? Or not YMMV.
But you could then automate the creation of the newsletter as you outline above. Pinboard would be goods as you can get a feed for a tag (newsletter).
I think the pi-top offers a solid alternative to chromebooks. Heaps more capable. Get to build yourself, and available for a similar price point. I could foresee an entire curriculum built around this device itself, not merely its use.
I’ve had bad luck with a couple of pi-tops. Love the idea, but I ended up just using the pi.
I probably ought to be doing something like this, particularly for some of the social stream posts which re-use the featured image in other places on the site.
This looks like an interesting link. My site uses the logo set in the customiser for twitter cards and the like but I’d really like to have different images for different categories or post kinds.
