The dabchicks we have been watching in the park have abandoned their nest. My wife watched coots tear bits of the nest while the dabchicks splash-surfaced to try and scare them. A few hours later they had left. Still swimming around the pond, we hope they try another site.
Strange light in the park tonight. Strong sunlight and heavy clouds.
The dabchick seem to be off to a good start this year, this nest looks a lot more substantial than the ones they were building at this time last year.
Watched this wee guy going back and forth with nesting material this morning.

Spring? Blossom in the park this morning.
The snow in the park melted to show rather bedraggled crocus. The first I’ve seen this year. A welcome bit of colour on a drench day.
The first snowdrops I’ve seen in 2021 a bit later and a bit muddier due to all the rain but so welcome.
