- Top 10 Reasons I Hate Year-End Top-10 Lists – Seattle – Music – Reverb which is funny as it is true. Found via Macdrifter who also produced my favourite non EDU podcast of 2012.
- ScriptCraft: Building cool things using Javascript in Minecraft fairly mindboggling:
making it possible to execute javascript code at the in-game command prompt and load and run player-written scripts. It strikes me that making Minecraft scriptable (via javascript) could only be a good thing because it opens up modding and scripting to a whole bunch of kids who already know javascript but who find the existing modding cycle of editing/compiling/reobfuscating/rejarring downright daunting – writing a minecraft mod is still something of a black art. Anything that makes modding easier can only be good
stuff. It also might be a way to getting Minecraft loving pupils thinking about coding. I wonder if Alan O’Donohoe knows about this.
- Firefox Nightly Build for Windows Gets MP3, AAC, and H.264 Support – HTML5 Audio having spent a fair bit of my xmas break faffing around with MP3 and ogg audio in the browser this sounds great. More important s that this should make audio and video on the web a lot simpler, which must be a good thing.
- Game Console Browsers pointed out to me by Doug, Back from Black-ops, Belshaw this site shows results game console web browsers and their features. Not being a gamer I never really think about these, but obviously important for the education works as pupils, have there devices at home and may be bringing them in as BYOD gets off the ground. As an aside, Doug is currently bald for a good cause: Doug Belshaw is fundraising for Cancer Research UK.
- I might miss the point about gaming but I am a firm believer in the value of mobile in teaching and learning, this post: Fraser Speirs – Blog – Refresh: The Platform sees Fraser evaluate possilbe next devices for his school. Good reasons for keeping it iPad.
