I managed to get #minecraftedu running from home and a few pupils in from remote locations using their #glowscot accounts. Hope to set up some home learning/playing next week. I am really rubbish at even walking in minecraft, so will be observing rather than building;-)
I am presuming you know the work of my AMAZING pal @StephenReidEdu and @ImmersiveMinds … on facebook, twitch…ah just everything — he has recorded LOADS of stuff recently for homelearners and the educators. sit back with a coffee and let the master teach you!
I’ve met Stephen a couple of times. Thanks. I’ll check it out
That’s a great start, John! You’ll find your students teach you a ton of great stuff.
I know. I look ridiculous on Minecraft. Just hopping up and down and breaking things. 🙂
I’m the same! I always seem to end up falling into a pool of water and getting stuck
@grammasheri I plan to just watch the pupils doing cool stuff, or having fun;-)
That’s what I did too!
That’s my plan too!
Are they on the trial accounts or have you found a way to pay for accounts? This has been a source of much frustration for me over the last wee while. It’s so good and I just want to be able to use it properly!
I did learn a bit from @ak_leeg and @mkurashige when we created this #clmooc dance video in #minecraftedu for the Fourth of July, 2015 youtu.be/spm1Uc6xKq4

@GlowScot accounts are good to go AFAIK. Needed to open some ports on my router firewall to get kids in same world. But they can play solo or with pals on same connection.
I didn’t take much notice of Minecraft until my son recently got into it. Redstone devices are incredible: they basically allow you to do electronics. I’m guff at Minecraft too but was able to help my son solve all sorts of problems and create all sorts of devices.
I need to know your open ports. The what and how!
Didn’t seem to hard. Forward port 19132 TCP & UDP. I seemed to manage with no reall knowledge. No idea of security implications;-) I suspect bandwidth might be an issue?
A wee bit more detail in a post: johnjohnston.info/blog/minecraft…
Thanks John! I’ll give it a go!
