{"id":598,"date":"2006-04-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1970-01-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/johnjohnston.info\/blog\/?e=598"},"modified":"2016-06-09T21:40:44","modified_gmt":"2016-06-09T21:40:44","slug":"blogs-pods-and-revolutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/johnjohnston.info\/blog\/blogs-pods-and-revolutions\/","title":{"rendered":"Blogs, pods and revolutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Talking to Glenise today about a possible article for Teaching Scotland the magazine of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gtcs.org.uk\/gtcs\/default.aspx\">GTC<\/a>, and trying to think of how all the web 2.0 stuff relates to the real world of teaching.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of the Edu Tech gurus talk about a revolution in teaching that they see as necessary to equip children for the coming century.<\/p>\n<p>I am coming round to seeing blogging and podcasting as just an extension of normal primary school practice.<\/p>\n<p>Blogging is just a <a href=\"http:\/\/lmhartley.edublogs.org\/\">Classroom Display<\/a> with a bigger audience. We are always talking about making things real for children, giving a purpose, blogging and podcasting do that.<\/p>\n<p>Primary children frequently <a title=\"Permanent link to entry 'Primary six book assembly'\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sandaigprimary.co.uk\/pivot\/pivot\/entry.php?id=599\">present knowledge to their peers<\/a> often in a school <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandaigprimary.co.uk\/pivot\/pivot\/entry.php?id=159\">Assembly<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandaigprimary.co.uk\/radio_sandaig\/\">podcasting<\/a> is a extension of this. More and more I am seeing blogging and podcasting as a small extension to normal good practice rather than a revolution. Blogging a discussion as way of consolidating knowledge is not too far removed from the same activity with a big bit of paper. Publishing a bit of writing on the web is just using an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandaigprimary.co.uk\/pivot\/sandaigpoets.php\"> open classroom wall<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Web 2.0 seems a lot more accessible and teacher friendly now and we still might help equip our pupils for the coming century.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Talking to Glenise today about a possible article for Teaching Scotland the magazine of the GTC, and trying to think of how all the web 2.0 stuff relates to the real world of teaching.
