{"id":2051,"date":"2009-01-25T00:00:00","date_gmt":"1970-01-01T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/johnjohnston.info\/blog\/?e=2051"},"modified":"2009-01-25T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"1970-01-01T00:00:00","slug":"counting-the-ways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/johnjohnston.info\/blog\/counting-the-ways\/","title":{"rendered":"Counting the Ways"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Friday afternoon I saw this tweet: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/tombarrett\/status\/1142242445\">Twitter \/ tombarrett: &#8220;Three Interesting Ways to &#8230;<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/tombarrett\">Tom Barrett<\/a> and popped over to <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/Present?docid=dhn2vcv5_6tv55j7g9\">the google presentation on using your Pocket Video Camera in the Classroom<\/a>. At that point there were three ways and a few folk in the chat. I got an invite from Tom and when I got home I added a slide, by that time there were four ideas so mine made five, I added another later in the evening. By this morning there are <strong>nineteen<\/strong> ideas in the slide deck and there have always been a few folk viewing the presentation when I&#8217;ve checked it. As I get ready to post this there are <strong>21 ideas<\/strong>. There has also be a <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=http%3A%2F%2Ftinyurl.com%2Fclaqh2\" title=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/claqh2 - Twitter Search\">ton<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=http%3A%2F%2Fis.gd%2FgXpf\" title=\"http:\/\/is.gd\/gXpf - Twitter Search\">tweets<\/a> linking to the presentation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><iframe src='https:\/\/docs.google.com\/EmbedSlideshow?docid=dhn2vcv5_6tv55j7g9' frameborder='0' width='410' height='342'  ><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Tom has a wonderful ability to get these things rolling through his extensive twitter network. The shared google presentation idea is a great idea, Tom has used it before: <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/Present?docid=dhn2vcv5_106c9fm8j\">Thirty-Eight Interesting Ways (and tips) to use your Interactive Whiteboard<\/a> and a couple on google earth, as has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dougbelshaw.com\/\" title=\"dougbelshaw.com\">Doug Belshaw<\/a> with <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\/Present?docID=ajdmqgcb7rbb_335gs4jdfzg&#038;fs=true&#038;revision=_latest&#038;start=0&#038;theme=bubbles&#038;cwj=true\">Interesting Ways to use Netbooks in the Classroom<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What is about these efforts is the amount of collaboration that they attract, much more tha, for example <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensourcecpd.org.uk\" title=\"OpenSourceCPD : Main - Home Page browse\">my own efforts<\/a>. I think part of the secret is probably the low bar to add to the resource. I guess it took me about 2 or 3 minutes to add the first of my slides and about 90 seconds for the second. This is a lot more reasonable than expecting folk to create a wiki page and fill it up. Google Slides are pretty straightforward, no need to read the docs, the technology is pretty transparent.
